Study #4

Study #4. David Hayes, 2013.

This is the fourth in the series of five macro studies I made using Hipstamatic's duo G-SQUAD/D-Type Plate. One more to go. Once again my  thanks goes to Mary Galloway and Christiane Bäcker for their inspiration.

I played around with the images in this series in iMovie last night. Might be something to this...stay tuned!!

Study #1

Study #1. David Hayes, 2013

A recent trend I'm noticing amongst the photographers I follow is to present their work in the form of "studies" where they will group a series of images together as a diptic or triptych. In particular I've been very impressed with the works of Mary Galloway and Christiane Bäcker whose groupings are always quite fascinating!

I thought I'd try my hand at this so this week I will be posting a number of my own "studies" where I've used my macro lens ala Christiane Bäcker. I'm quite pleased with how these studies came out...I do hope you like them as well!

One of Those Afternoons.

One of Those Afternoons. David Hayes, 2013.

Today's image is from my archives...a color slide that I shot and processed many, many years ago. I guess this isn't "iphoneography" as it wasn't shot with my iPhone. I did scan and transfer the digital image to my iPad for post processing. So...hybrid-ography? Cross-opgraphy? How about photography? Now that's a novel idea!

Recipe for One of Those Afternoons:

Scanned color slide - scanner utility - transferred to iPad
Tangled FX
Cartoon with adjustments
Snapseed
crop
Drama (Dark 2)
Frame 17

Ode To My "Health Coach"...

Avocado. David Hayes, 2013.

My "health coach", Sarina. If it's not kale that she preaches...it's things like avocado. Kale takes some getting used to...but avocados I could eat everyday. And I do! So this still life is dedicated to her. (Now if I could only get her to go along with the idea that avocados are best as a dip to be eaten with chips and margaritas. Maybe if I added kale to the blend...)

Recipe for Avocado:
Laminar Pro
crop
Lighting Engine
Bleach Bypass @ 11%
Mextures
Mummify (Screen @29%)
Springtime (Overlay @38%)

Margaritas are optional...but highly recommended...

In the Style of...

Such A Cut Up. David Hayes, 2013

I belong to a Face Book group that calls itself "The New Era Museum" or NEM. A recent challenge put forth to its members was to create an image in the style of another one of the members. Taking up this challenge, I created my image Such A Cut-Up in the style of an image by Lisa Waddell. Hers was a much more formal take on the tomato...but you know me. Can't take things seriously...

While I don't know Lisa's recipe...here's what I used:

PS Touch
crop; adjust shadows and highlights
TouchReTouch
remove the distratctions
Mextures
Edison (Screen @35)
Mummify (Overlay @ 35)
Snapseed
Tune Image for Brightness and Saturation

The 5th of July.

Star. David Hayes, 2013

My back screen porch is the perfect place for quiet morning contemplations, this morning being no exception. Sitting out there earlier this morning with my cup of coffee listening to the rain...and the quiet. What little traffic noise there was dampened by the sounds of the rain...perfect.

The 5th of July. The frenzy of the 4th over...now we can all settle into what summer really is about. Yes, heat and humidity but also the celebration of life. I've always "fought" past summers...not being a lover of heat and humidity...but I think this summer I'll give into the full celebration. As it should be.

Recipe for Star:
PS Touch
crop
adjust for brightness, contrast, and exposure
adjust sharpening
TouchReTouch
take out any distractions.

What is it about today?

Glamour. David Hayes, 2013

I know it's Monday. July 1st. The beginning of a holiday week and all of that. I woke up this morning feeling groggy and a step behind...but was able to shake this off before leaving the house to run my errands... but I tell you what....it seemed that everyone I came across was acting the same way...a step behind. I can only image what next Monday will be like after a long 4th of July week-end. My goodness gracious!
