Something Old, Something New...

Something Old, Something New. David Hayes, 2012
i365 project, 203/365. (iPhone4, Hipstamatic: Pistil Film, Roboto Glitter Lens, no flash)

This was an experiment. Not quite "round-tripping" or "flip-flopping" but certainly inspired by that idea. The base image is a vintage photo from one of my wife's family scrapbooks. We think it is of a steel mill in Erie, PA but not really sure of that. Nor of the date. We think her grandfather took this as he was a photographer during his time. I shot this photo with my iPhone...using Hipstamatic...and liked what came about....

What a beautifully moody photo. The iPhone/Hipstamatic did a good job capturing the pic.

I love the look and feel of this photo. You have taken something vintage and given it a modern twist.

So you used the Hipstamatic to shoot a pic of the original photo in the scrapbook? No scanner in between, right? Cool beans, totally. I have some old pics I'll hafta try this on. I used to have a special set of lens for my old slr just for this purpose. Boy, that was a few thousand years ago, a darkroom ago, and many cameras ago!

The color does give it that vintage feel.

Nice! I've done that a couple times too...skipping the scanner and shooting the original old photo with my phone. I 100% agree with Seth's comment!
