Goodbye, Helen!

Helen, one of my first assemblage dolls, has been sold! While I'm excited to have made the sale, it is a bittersweet one as she had become a family favorite during her stay with us. Now she's off to her new home in Illinois. She'll be missed, but not forgotten! special request, I'm already gathering the materials to bring her sister into being. Stay tuned to this blog as I'll be posting progress reports!!!

Bundle News

Let's's August 29th. Week 16 for this bundle, week 15 for the Barefoot Boy bundle. While they both show lots of signs of "decomposition", I had expected more by this time. Perhaps there's more going on in the inside of each of these bundles. I'll find out at the end of September! In any case, here's this week's photos of both bundles...

Bundle News's week 14 and 15 respectively for these bundles. They're certainly showing their age...and I know how that feels seeing as I just turned 57 several weeks ago! There's what? Five weeks left until the end of September and then they come down. What then? Could be interesting!!!

Etsy Updates - Three new greeting cards

I've just added three new greeting cards to my Etsy shop: "La Sirena", "Palm Tree", and "Penguin". These are all hand pulled from linocuts I made. Their backgrounds are digitally printed dictionary pages featuring the definition of each subject. I also relisted two small collages. You can see all of these in my Etsy shop at:

Disco Bundle Updates

It's Week 14 for this bundle...and it's getting harder and harder to find a new angle or perspective to show everyone on this bundle. The heat and humidity is causing it to bend and warp more, but other than that there are only small changes going on. What is needed is some rain to soak it down!!!

The same can be said about the Barefoot Boy bundle (week 13 for it...). Although, it does get "watered" every time we water the garden so it's showing a little more in the way of changes. Only a short while longer for both the bundles as they come down at the end of September.

Altered Book - "Leaves"

Front cover

Taking up a challenge by "Cloth, Paper, Scissors", I created this altered book, "Leaves". A bit of steampunk influenced, the rest just happened as I worked on the book. In the end, I think I like what in became more than what I first imaged! Usually works that way...

"Leaves" started out life as a standard size sketch book. You know the type, black covers...lots of blank pages inside. Can be somewhat intimidating to many of us...  So...I first gutted the pages from the covers, then cut down the covers and the pages to 5.5" x 5.5"to meet the requirements of the challenge. Setting the pages aside, I started work on the covers.

The first thing I did was rivet sections of several recycled beer cans to the front and back covers and to its spine. This process was a little more involved than I thought it would be but once I got going, everything went smoothly. That done, I then applied the leaf patterns to the front and back covers using a  transfer gel I made from a lino block I had created earlier. Once these gels had dried, I then further distressed the covers with a acrylic wash.  Now for the pages!

Front and back covers...and spine

The pages were altered with some getting tattered edges, others windows cut into them, and still others had pockets of various types applied. I also created a "hidden space" using the back pages and back cover. Once all this tearing, cutting, and gluing was done, the pages also were distressed using the same type of acrylic wash as the covers. Needless to say...the pages now where a little too bulky to fit back into the covers! So I had to devise a floating cover arrangement to put them back into the covers which I like as it gave the whole book more dimensionality than I first imaged!

I haven't decided what come next for this book. I've submitted it to "Cloth, Paper, Scissors" so if it's accepted I'll have to ship it to them and will have to wait until it comes back. I have my fingers crossed that this will happen which will give me time to contemplate what's next for "Leaves"!

Bundle Updates: Week 13

Week 13 finds my original bundles looking crispy and tired from the heat. Just like me. These pictures aren't very "inspired" but I guess they are what they are at this point. More heat and humidity this week....August is not my favorite month....

Hot days of August

I'm not a fan of heat or humidity, so when the "dog days" of August set in...I'm inside! Perfect time to reorganize studios, Etsy shops, catch up on blog postings...things like that. Did some fine tuning of my Etsy shop today and even added a new watercolor painting. Check it out if you have a moment...and let me know what you think....
